On the Road of Human Rights in Thailand

The author of this book has high intention to distribute his knowledge and his long experiences during his working in the office as National Human Rights Commissioner. The National Human Rights Commissioner (NHRC), is the first of its kind in Thailand, was created under the 1997 Constitution mentioned that the human dignity, right and liberty of the people shall be protected. So, the necessity of providing the state of knowledge on human rights is clearly accepted among Thai citizen. The book contains 3 chapters: 1. the universal concept and meaning of human rights and how it has been gradually penetrated into Thai society. 2. the understanding of various rights and practices 3. the dynamic mechanism to promote and protect human rights in Thailand. Moreover the author presents circumstantial background and situation of human rights of the country for the lessons learned to the readers. It is provoked readers by raising many current human rights questions-answers in recent years as examples to learn for the benefit of mutual learning and understanding.

Since the NHRC serve as the independent institutions which does not have the authority to pass judgment or impose penalty on anybody. But by its task, it is basically to stimulate the state authorities concerned to do their proper jobs, and along with the role in promotion social learning and awareness. The author also has direct task to disseminate his knowledge, direct practices and experiences to all walks of life to realize of the role of rights defender.
