The data paper presents a summary of the policies of the last four democratic governments of Thailand led by General Chatichai Choonhavan, Mr. Chuan Leekpai, Mr. Banharn Silpa-Archa and General Chavalit Yongchaiyudh. This book shows that although government policies are not given much attention and are perceived to be copied from one administration to another, there are noticeable changes in the concepts, emphases and details. In the last decade, policies have assumed a larger role in Thai politics both during the electoral campaigns and thereafter. This is a result of persistent efforts of many civic organizations in advocating public policies and monitoring the performance of political parties and the governments. IPPS hopes that this book will make a contribution toward this end. The first printing (December 1996) was out of print by the end of 1997. The second printing includes the policies of the present government in the annex.
